Middletown South falls short in their quest for back to back state championships. SSZ has highlights of Steinert’s 6-2 win over the Eagles in the Group 3 softball state championship at Kean University Steinert 6 Middletown South 2 Steinert scored 2 runs in three straight innings and the Eagles were plagued by five errors in the Group 3 state finals at Kean University. Kelly Keane had an RBI double and a ground ball that resulted in a 2-run error for the Spartans. Steinert scored two runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings. Their final four runs were the result of a pair of Eagles errors. Kayle Wise pitched a three hitter for the complete game win. The Eagles got an RBI double from Sarah Corey in the top of the 3rd and scored on a two out error in the 6th. Middletown South’s season comes to a close with a 28-5 record.
